Through a careful selection of artworks by Farhad Ahrarnia and Hossein Valamanesh, Fereshte Moosavi analyses their creative methods where a humble relationship with materials and objects have formed their practice. Ahrarnia’s khatam-kari (Persian technic of inlaying), carpets, and Tazhibs present a dual connection between the modern man and traditional handicrafts. Using natural materials such as branches, leaves, earth, and fire, Hossein Valamanesh reminds us of a forgotten relationship with the nature of materials. These qualities in the work of both artists will be examined in this book by understanding the poetic features and geometrical aesthetics imbedded in their work while looking at philosophical intentions and art criticism.
