"...and the river washing its feet" is an installation comprised of archival film footage projected onto plaster casts of the Minaret of Anah's eight unique carved niche designs. The casts are of moulds originally produced for the reconstruction of the Minaret in 2012, the lone survivors of that effort. Once part of a larger whole, their solitary presence represents a fragmentary resurrection, a fragile retelling of a history repeatedly lost. In parallel, an archival film provides an intimate recording of a family excursion to the edge of the river bed in old 'Anah, taken in the weeks leading up to the submersion of the city. A father recounts the significance of Qal'a Island to his children, and informs them of the imminent plans to relocate its famous Minaret. Another film captures footage of the city as it is consumed by the rising water levels. The Euphrates, Anah's lifeline throughout its 4,000 year history, ultimately becomes the perpetrator of its demise.
