Published on the occasion of Rand Abdul Jabbar's debut solo exhibition at the gallery, this catalogue accompanies her showcase Molding Anew.
Rand Abdul Jabbar’s Molding Anew unfolds as a dialogue between myth and material, bridging ancient Mesopotamian traditions with contemporary explorations of memory, identity, and preservation. Curated by Meitha Almazrooei with exhibition design by Alejandro Stein, this showcase offers a profound reflection on displacement and cultural heritage, using clay—a timeless and enduring medium—as a powerful conduit for storytelling. Intricate ceramic sculptures and evocative installations, Jabbar reclaims fragments of ancestral knowledge, transforming them into narratives that resonate with both personal and collective histories.
The works interrogate archeological legacies and the politics of excavation, using forms such as fertility figures, crowns, and enigmatic eye idols as motifs of resilience and transformation.
