Lawrie Shabibi is pleased to announce that Mathaf: Arab Museum of Modern Art has recently acquired an in-depth collection of works by renowned artist Mehdi Moutashar, spanning nearly six decades of his career.
The collection includes pivotal works from 1964 to 2023. Among the highlights are notable pieces such as Trois Angles à 135° (2005), Zone 1, Paris (1969), Double Magic Square (2023), Three Squares (2022), and One Square and One Cube (2019).
The acquisition was initiated following his first solo exhibition at Mathaf titled Introspection as Resistance. This exhibition presented a constellation of Mehdi Moutashar’s new and existing works in a wide variety of mediums, demonstrating how his conceptual practice bridges contemporary art with the heritage of the Arab-Muslim world.
