A development of Syed’s recent work which explores ambivalent attitudes towards
capitalism, this work is a neon sign in ‘gold’ which reads “For Sale” in English,
repeated four times and mimicking the square kufic script style of Arabic script seen
on Islamic monuments and craftwork. This design is an extension of his discourse
on the commodification of oriental and occidental binaries within the contemporary
Islamic world, specifically the Middle East and Pakistan.
