Throughout Naveed's early years, she was constantly relocated with her family to several different cities in Pakistan on account of her father's postings in the army. Every few years, they would move to a new location and a new home they could temporarily call 'home'. This intrigued the artist to imagine the residual memories of the families that had lived in these houses- she could feel the reminiscence of feelings and expressions of the previous residents.
Interested in what had been left behind from scratches, dents and marks, Naveed felt the need to question the history behind these ephemeral 'homes' by examining the idea of 'impermanent spaces and preservation' in the form of personal and collective memories imbued with nostalgia and personal insights. Naveed's work articulates the imagining and reconstruction of spaces derived from narratives.
The physical layering in this series is an integral part of discovering the narrative. Like the earth, ones memory, too, has a peculiar system of hiding and preserving. Many layers need to be peeled away before arriving to the core of the event.
