Mohamed Melehi | La Biennale di Venezia : STRANIERI OVUNQUE - FOREIGNERS EVERYWHERE

20 April - 24 November 2024 Biennials

Mohamed Melehi participates in the group exhibition 'Stranieri Ovunque - Foreigners Everywhere', featured in the 60th International Art Exhibition of La Biennale di Venezia, curated by Adriano Pedrosa.

The 60th International Art Exhibition of La Biennale di Venezia takes its title from a series of artworks initiated in 2004 by the Claire Fontaine collective, originating from Paris and now based in Palermo. These works feature neon sculptures of varying hues, displaying the phrase "Foreigners Everywhere" in an expanding array of languages. This phrase originates from the name of a collective in Turin that combated racism and xenophobia in Italy during the early 2000s.

Adriano Pedrosa elaborates on the significance of the expression "Stranieri Ovunque," stating that it holds multiple interpretations. Primarily, it signifies the omnipresence of foreigners—wherever one may go or reside, foreigners abound. Secondly, it underscores the notion that regardless of location, one is inherently a foreigner at heart, emphasizing a universal sense of displacement.

STRANIERI OVUNQUE - FOREIGNERS EVERYWHERE is on view Giardini and the Arsenale, Venice from 20 April  to 24 November, 2024.
