Alserkal Arts Foundation presents New Waves: Mohamed Melehi and the Casablanca Art School Archives. Curated by Morad Montazami, Zamân Books & Curating, the exhibition retraces the life and career of Melehi the painter, photographer, muralist, graphic designer, art teacher, and cultural activist.
New Waves is organised in collaboration with the Museum of Contemporary African Art Al Maaden (MACAAL). The original exhibition was produced by The Mosaic Rooms, A.M. Qattan Foundation.
The digital iteration of show is also available at Alserkal Online, presented as an interactive archival exhbibition curated by Morad Mortazami and Madeleine de Colnet of Zamân Books & Curating. This expands their research into lesser known aspects of Melehi’s work, such as his photographic practice and also reveals his in-depth exploration of Afro-Berber art and craft.
