Overview

Born in 1994 in Cagayan de Oro City, Philippines, Augustine is a multi-disciplinary Filipino artist who works in photography, painting, installation, and poetry.  His expanded photographic practice revolves around and evolves in questioning the post-colonial identity of a Filipino in the diaspora through different appropriations of artistic mediums, traditional materials, and historical and personal narratives.

Biography

Born in 1994 in Cagayan de Oro City, Philippines, Augustine is a multi-disciplinary Filipino artist who works in photography, painting, installation, and poetry.

 

His expanded photographic practice revolves around and evolves in questioning the post-colonial identity of a Filipino in the diaspora through different appropriations of artistic mediums, traditional materials, and historical and personal narratives.

 

Augustine studied Fine Arts (Prof. Haegue Yang) at Hochschule für Bildende Künste–Städelschule (2025) and has a Bachelor of Arts in Mass Communication from Ateneo de Davao University, Philippines.

He has participated in residencies and fellowships at the National Museum of Modern and  Contemporary Art Korea — Goyang Residency, AlUla Artist Residency, Salama Bint Hamdan Emerging Artist Fellowship, Campus Art Dubai, and the International Summer School of Photography in Latvia. 

As a writer, Augustine has published several art and poetry books, including Conversations at the end of the universe (2020), Long Night Stands With Lonely, Lonely Boys (2021), Happy to be here to be happy (2022), The Bitter Taste of Sweetness (2022), and Slow Disco (2024).

 

He is the co-founder of Sa Tahanan Collective alongside curator Anna Bernice delos Reyes, aiming to create a platform for Filipino art and creatives through exhibitions, art sales, and collaborations.

Augustine is based between Dubai and Frankfurt.
