"Blueprint/12 Angle Stone (Concreto)" is a 4 x 4 grid construction of grout, wood, glass, iron and corrugated steel rods. Here, the pattern of the legendary 12 angle Inca stone in Cusco is layered below a floor plan taken from the cover of “Haga Usted Su Casa Moderna Facil” (You Can Easily Make Your Modern Home). This popular book from the 1980’s jumpstarted the vernacular construction transformation by providing simple instructions to modernize the country. Instead of a single shape, the configuration presents several squared, rectangular, and semi-circular shapes cut out from, and overlaid onto, one another. The result is an image that resembles an architectural blueprint or city map; representing the quest for order and directed social organisation. Considering however the combination of opposing materials, both strong and soft, it would seem as inherently unstable, and quite presumably doomed to fail.
