Lawrie Shabibi is delighted to announce its first participation in the Present Future section of Artissima 2015 with a solo booth presentation by Yazan Khalili.
Yazan Khalili's work is engaged with the politics of the image and its emancipatory potential. He works mainly with photography, text and video, borrowing narrative and rhythmic structures from cinematic language. Khalili's practice is premised on a distrust of the image (even though it materialises as images itself), this scepticism is evident in the use of text, which almost always accompanies the image yet at times is so interwoven with the image that it becomes yet another image.
For Artissima, Khalili presents a book, On Love and Other Landscapes (2011), a video, The Blindness of Love (2013) and a number of works from his photographic series The Day we Saw Nothing in Front of Us (2015).
