Dima Srouji | 'When Solidarity is not a Metaphor'

Dima Srouji will participate in the group exhibition When Solidarity is not a Metaphor curated by Nataša Petrešin-Bachelez and created by Alserkal Initiatives in partnership with Cité Internationale des arts and in collaboration with Lightbox.

Dima Srouji and Jasbir Puar will present works from the series Revolutionary Enclosures (Until the Apricots), 2023, which melds their engagement in architecture, visual arts, and decolonial theory to critique colonial impacts. By juxtaposing their experiences of COVID-19 lockdowns with the trauma of the second intifada (2000–2005), they transform household items into poignant emblems of Palestinian resilience. These everyday objects, once emblematic of traumas of siege, containment, and air raids, now narrate stories of community endurance, caregiving, and the daily remaking of commons within oppressive confines.

When Solidarity is not a Metaphor is on view at Corridor, Navy Officers’ Club, Arsenale, Venice from 16 - 21 April 2024.
